DJ BOAT has always had music as part of his life as early as he can recount. His first
memory of this was when he was about 5 years old, growing up with his grandmother is
a small Ghanaian Village; he would spend hours laying in front of his grandmother’s
radio, listening to whatever music came out. Because he did not own a TV at home, we
would walk miles to friends' house to watch music videos of his favorite artists including
Bob Marley and Michael Jackson. This passion was reignited when he moved to New
York City in 2003 and learned how to loop portions of a song to create beats and rap to
it. That summer, he spent most of his time writing hiplife (Ghanaian Rap) to American
Hip Hop beats. This love for music continued throughout High School where he spent
hours with his African friends beating on lunch tables and free-styling.

Revered for her raw, sensual, and emotionally naked Nordic pop tunes, IRENE’s otherworldly
songwriting is similar to Kate Bush, still, her soundscapes gravitate more into the sensual Nordic
pop-melancholia like Robyn’s. Nuanced and minimal, IRENE could easily be related to FKA Twigs, however, a deeper dive into her lyrics reveals a heavy focus on the unseen world:
